I'll take the crown. Why? Because I'm channeling Wonder Woman every day for at least 2 minutes. You see, according to researchers at Harvard, adopting the Wonder Woman-esque "power pose" (that famous open, hands-on-the-hips posture made famous by Linda Carter), can change your life, your career ... quite possibly even your riding. See, now I've got your attention.
And no, I'm not talking about the same old stuff about how body language affects the way others think of us, this is different ... VERY different. You see, new science proves that how WE POSITION our bodies literally AFFECTS OUR BODY CHEMISTRY.
Here's the deal: Amy Cuddy, a social psychologist and professor at Harvard Business School found that after a mere 2 minutes in a "high power" pose (think Wonder Woman), dramatically increased levels of testosterone (the "dominance" horomone) rise and decreased cortisol (the "stress" hormone). Ok is there anyone among us who couldn't use a little increased confidence and decreased stress on the way down centerline?
And it's not just us humans who power pose, lots of animals do it. Our horses are masters at it. Rearing? Extreme equine "high power pose". Think about it, even when our horses respond to training and "lift in the withers" - that's POWER POSING people!
Interesing, yes? Dr. Cuddy presented her findings in a TED Talk video that has been seen by over 20 million viewers (it's Number 2 on the TED most popular talks of all time). And yet, nobody at the barn has any idea what I'm talking about. What, are we all too engrossed in the latest sale video on Dressage Daily? Trust me. Take 20 minutes to watch the video or sprint through the Cliff Notes version here. Later when you win dressage Olympic gold, or the Nobel Peace Prize, or accomplish whatever your dream, you'll stand on the podium, choke back tears and say, "I owe it all to SHADBELLY".
Oh, and of course, you'll need a new equestrian ensemble, right? We have just the thing: the Olympia Pro-Series Full Seat breeches and AriatTek Sunstopper Zip top from Ariat.
Our featured pair of Olympia breeches are Tan, perfect for everyday, but the Olympias also come in navy, black, espresso, and competition white - a fabulous show breech with a smooth, flattering, "regular rise" fit. The Olympia's Schoeller Prestige 4-way stetch fabric is comfortable and smooth, with a seamless, Calf-Fit System and light, breathable Clarino synthetic full seat.
BEST OF ALL is the elastic "V" panel built into the back waistband of the Olympias to deliver superior stretch and recovery. You can ride (hey and even bend over to pick out feet!) with confidence knowing the V3 technology will provide a close but comfortable fit. We LOVE this feature! Why don't all breeches come with this? Oh, because Ariat patented the design - that's why.
We paired the breeches with Ariat's Sunstopper Zip top in "French Blue", a can't-go-wrong, universally flattering color! SPF protection, moisture wicking, breathable underarm panel, fitted-design, and priced at a surprisingly reasonable $49.95 - the Sunstopper has everything you'll need if you are headed for sunnier weather this season.
Go forth, SHADBELLY readers, and ride like a superhero.
