Is there anything more irritating and disruptive in life than losing or destroying your lifeline to the world and everyone in it?
As much as I'd like to "unplug" when I ride, sometimes it's important to stay connected. Perhaps you rely on your phone for business and can't afford to miss a call from a client, or maybe you ride alone and need your phone in case of an emergency, or maybe you're a horse-loving doctor-on-call like Joanna Newton, MD, the founder of Giddyup Gear.
That's why Joanna created the GoVelope, a phone carrier solution for equestrians with the slogan "You move. It doesn't."
GiddyUp Gear sent us the GoVelope Sport in Blue to try - this model retails for $35.95. A weather proof, water resistant model called the GoVelope Pro is available in an array of brilliant colors for $54.95. Fully customizable orders of 10 or more are possible, so go ahead and dream big.
Don't freak out, the GoVelope just LOOKS really big in the photo above. It's actually perfectly sized for up to a 7" x 4" phone or other device, small enough not to get in your way, but roomy enough for the new iPhone 6 or the iPhone 6 Plus (that's a standard iPhone 6 in the photo).
The GoVelope features a double sided velcro strap that threads between the belt loops on your breeches. Joanna designed the GoVelope to handle really big movement, so you can sit the trot without phone fear.
For the few pairs of breeches I own that have, shall we say "less than stellar" belt loop construction (and you manufacturers know who you are), I wrapped the GoVelope's velcro strap around my belt instead. While the carrier wasn't as perfectly aligned using this method as the dressage rider in me instinctively craved, it did the trick.
The SHADBELLY focus team concluded unanimously that wearing a GoVelope does not make your butt look big - in fact, it has quite the opposite effect.
The GoVelope is quite civilized actually. Sure beats having to pull your phone out of your sports bra every time you get a text ...
