Some people were born to layer. You know the ones - temperatures start to drop and they instinctively pile on scarf-over-jacket-over-sweater-over-button-down ... and tada! AMAZING!
Ok, that's not me.
No. My attempts at layering often result in a sloppy, haphazard, you know, that all familiar "too-obsessed-with-my-horse-to-care-what-I-look-like" look.
Well, help is on the way. The current collection from FITS will have us all comfy, cozy AND chic with their simple, streamlined layering system of: a) fitted base layers, b) texture - lots of different but complementary fabrics, c) maintaining proportion and fit, and d) awesome accessory accents.
Let's start where the fanny meets the saddle. The featured FITS Free Flex Full Seat Zip Front Breeches are constructed of FITS PerforMAX all season compression fabric. No, not that awful binding, suck-it-in type of C.O.M.P.R.E.S.S.I.O.N. - this fabric offers a comfortable, secure-feeling, medium weight and hold.
The Free Flex breech features a tummy smoothing panel (who couldn't use a little smoothing after all the holidays?) and FITS exclusive Flex-Leather synthetic euro full seat (looks and grips like leather, but durable and a no-brainer to care for). We also love the cool mesh at the ankle to reduce bulk under our boots. The breeches are available in Black, Stone or our featured color, Clay. Oh, and two important words, ladies: gusseted crotch.
The Free Flex Breeches retail for $178 [these are brand new for 2015. In fact, so new, they're not even on the FITS website yet, but feel free to contact FITS for upcoming availability].
Chance of Rain? Layer on the FITS Shannon Waterproof Shell available in Autumn Houndstooth (our featured color) or Black Plaid. Perfect for riding, with a hidden snap-in-place saddle skirt in front and snap vents behind. The Shannon Shell retails for $240.
Ready for a little color? The FITS Reversible Thread Belt is the perfect accessory - it's a nice wide 1-3/4 inches. Our featured belt, the Tuscan Red that reverses to a versatile Sable, retails for $108.
Underneath it all? Try the Erin Base Layer Shirt and experience that "cozy pajama" feeling all day long. Available in Tuscan Red/Sable, Black, or Sable/Black for $90.
Let's keep layering! The FITS Katelyn Sweater Jacket pulls the collection together with chic Town & Country style. Made of a warm Italian wool sweater knit, the Katelyn features contrasting accents inside the collar (that's the matching Autumn Houndstooth from the Shannon waterproof shell) and contrast piping. Our featured Katelyn jacket is in the color called Dappled Bay, but it's also available in Black. Retail for the Katelyn is $160.
I'm finding it's easy to build off the FITS collection too. The neutral base palette coordinates beautifully with much of my existing equestrian wardrobe ... and I can't wait to try the Shannon houndstooth waterproof shell with my red wellies from Gumleaf!
[SHADBELLY TIP ON SIZING: The Free Flex Breeches were true to size, however we found the tops and outerwear pieces were generously sized. While a little extra room is great for layering, if you prefer a more fitted look, you might want to consider dropping down a size when ordering. Best bet is to call the FITS team at 888.360.FITS for assistance.]
