I've been ridiculously obsessed with brown dressage boots for years. Need them? No. Want them? Yes...BAD! Problem was, each time I'd price them out with the options I so desired (color, zippers, custom fit) - ouch! I simply could not justify the purchase.
Then, late one night while doing research for SHADBELLY, I uncovered what may be the holy grail of Konig boot deals. The bottom line? A glorious pair of Konig Favorit boots, in the rich dark dunkelbraun color (think dark chocolate, a hue of about 72% cocoa), with full-customization, full length zippers, an elegantly ample dressage bow and the iconic Konig crowns, for about EUR 515, including incremental import taxes* and shipping to the US. At today's exchange rate, that's roughly $705.00 US.
What's the secret? Order the basic Konig Favorits from Germany on www.calevo.com and upgrade them from there. Available options include zippers, full or semi-customization, dressage bow height, Swarovski accents, gold or silver Konig crowns and a sumptuous array of colors.
1. In order to save, you must be brave. Dressage boot nirvana is only for those who diligently, and we mean DILIGENTLY, provide Calevo with precise tracings and measurements.
SHADBELLY TIP: Calevo will accept your tracings and measurements via email, however, I took the extra time and snail-mailed them the original hard copies. I wanted to be certain the scale of my foot tracings would not be altered in any way by scanning. All I can say is my paranoia paid off - these boots literally could not fit better.
2. Konig makes a couple of variations of the Favorit. The standard "Favorit" version (the model I ordered and upgraded) is completely leather-lined and includes whalebone reinforcement, but is NOT as stiff as the confusingly similar "Favorit Dressage", which includes stiffer upper leather on the outside shaft. If you really demand a stiff boot, you may want to skip the Favorits altogether and take a look at the Konig Dynasty.
Ordering was a tad tricky. Email me at email@example.com if you want details on the ins-and-outs of getting the best savings on your Calevo order.
Now I'm setting my sights on a new obsession ... dressage boots in navy ...
* Import Taxes - My bottom line price includes the incremental cost of Import Taxes on my purchase, over what I would have paid in sales taxes had I bought the boots here in Florida.
